 After failing to score on two crucial drives, the
Rebels fell to the Panthers, 38-29 in Grande Communications Stadium.
Permian lost two fumbles - one on a kickoff return and the other at
Lee’s 3-yard line - but the Lee failed to turn those opportunities
into points.
Permian took the
opening kickoff and put together a 10-play, 84-yard scoring drive to
get on the board first. Lee answered with a 5-yard touchdown
run by quarterback Jace Edwards to end the first quarter.
Sparks flew in the
second quarter as the two teams posted 34 combined points on the
scoreboard. Following a 100-yard kickoff return by Tevin
Collier, Lee forced a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and recovered,
taking over at Permian’s 32 yard line. However, Lee turned it
over on four downs when Edwards was sacked on 4th-and-7. The
Rebels scored at the end of the quarter on a 24-yard pass to narrow
the Panther lead to 28-19 at the half. In the second half,
Permian and Lee traded touchdowns in the third and field goals in
the final quarter.
