Robert E. Lee Senior High School - TEA Academically Recognized Campus,
originally a $3.5 million facility, opened in the fall of 1961 under the
leadership of Mr. Leslie R. Hinds. The building was to accommodate
approximately 2200 students even though less than 2000 students were
enrolled in the fall. The high school housed four grade levels:
freshman, sophomore, junior and senior.
The new facility consisted of
seven pods or sections that were designed around a central courtyard. An
interesting note is that when the school opened, there were no doors on
the classrooms, and only doorways.

Let's take a walk down Memory Lane.
Down this path, we reflect back to the Sixties, Seventies, and Eighties. I
guess now would be a good time to clarify an issue before it ever get
started. There was a time in Lee's history where Confederate flags
were worn on the helmets and those Rebel flags were waved in the stands.
Some of the early photos on this site display the above mentioned.
Being the Rebmaster, I have chose to display these
pictures with the understanding - "Whatever your personal interpretation
the flag represents, we cannot change history - only learn from it".
